Serdar Ortaç was born on February 16, 1970, in Istanbul, Turkey. His father was of Crimean Tatar origin from Cide in Kastamonu, while his mother had Kurdish roots. He completed his primary education in the Kocamustafapaşa district of Istanbul and later attended Suadiye High School. After that, he graduated from Haydarpaşa Vocational High School in the turning-and-finishing department. He later enrolled at Bilkent University in Ankara to study American Culture and Literature but did not complete his degree. In 1993, Serdar began working at private radio stations in Istanbul as a program producer and presenter. His voice and songwriting attracted the attention of a producer, leading to a contract with RAKS Müzik and giving him the opportunity to release his own songs. His debut studio album, Aşk İçin, was released on August 17, 1994. The song “Karabiberim” quickly made him one of the most recognized names in Turkish pop music. In 1996, he released his second album, Yaz Yağmuru, which included hits such as “Gamzelim,” “Ben Adam Olmam,” and the title track. A Spanish-language version of the album, titled Loco Para Amar, was released in Mexico. His third album, Gecelerin Adamı, came out on July 10, 1998, and its title track became one of the most popular songs of the year. Throughout his career, Serdar Ortaç released numerous albums and became one of the most influential figures in Turkish pop. His music blends catchy pop melodies with Turkish musical elements, and he is widely known for writing hit songs for himself and other artists. His albums achieved high sales, and he received many awards over the years. Serdar Ortaç married Irish model Chloe Loughnan in 2014 after she appeared in one of his music videos and worked as a judge on a Turkish fashion show. The couple divorced in August 2019. In 1999, Ortaç was detained for 54 days in Mamak Military Prison after being accused of avoiding military service. In 2017, he announced publicly that he had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). With a career spanning more than three decades, Serdar Ortaç has played a major role in shaping Turkish pop music. His energetic stage presence, prolific songwriting, and ability to adapt to changing music trends have kept him popular from the 1990s to the present. Some of his notable albums include Aşk İçin (1994), Yaz Yağmuru (1996), Gecelerin Adamı (1998), Bilsem Ki (1999), and Okyanus (2002).
